Fellowship Application FAQ
Q: When are applications due?
A: Applications are due on January 6, 2020.
Q: When will I know if I am selected?
A: Interviews are typically conducted in late February. Applicants will be notified of the results of the selection process by early March.
Q: How are Fellows selected?
A: Applications are initially scored by a review committee (consisting of program faculty). The second stage of the selection process is a telephone interview. Selection decisions are based on a number of factors including academic achievement, public health experience, fit between the Fellowship and the applicant’s expressed career goals, applicant’s interest in working in public health in Wisconsin and strength of applicant’s letters of recommendation.
Q: If I am selected for an interview, what is the interview format?
A: Interviews are conducted over the phone and are scheduled for 30 minutes with the application review committee (consisting of program faculty, Fellowship alumni and external partners). Applicants who are selected for an interview will receive additional instructions prior to the interview.
Q: How are Fellows placed in training sites?
A: We conduct a matching process that includes the following steps and concludes in a finalized placement by April:
Informed by your background, learning objectives and career goals, the Fellowship works with local, state, and non-governmental organizations to identify appropriate placement opportunities.
Fellows are offered potential placement sites to review and meetings are coordinated with the applicant and potential placement organization/s.
Fellow and organization work with program faculty and staff to make a final decision about placements. Many Fellows have dual placements, which means that they might be split half-time between a public health agency and a community-based organization.
In almost all instances, Fellows are assigned to their training sites for two years. We expect Fellows to participate in the program for the complete two-year term.
